Where the AI is, and where it is not

What Ask LA does

• It answers from a library of the boards' own publications: lslbc.gov and spbla.com pages and forms, the statutes (La. R.S. 37:2150–2192 for contractors; La. R.S. 37:1361–1380 for plumbing), the rules (LAC 46:XXIX; LAC 46:LV), official FAQs and news, plus a hand-built catalog of license types and answer guides. Each legal or factual claim carries a numbered source you can open.
• It names the specific license and its board, explains requirements, fees, deadlines and the Act 908 plumbing transition, and can help fill an application in the licensee portal. You submit; it never files.
• Inside the portal and the agency console the assistants (Ask LA for licensees, Justinian for staff) read the record in front of you and the deterministic rule engine's findings; they explain and draft, they do not decide.

What it does not do

• It cannot look up whether a person or company is licensed. Use the register search on this site and the official rosters at arlspublic.lslbc.louisiana.gov and public.spbla.com.
• It cannot take a payment, issue a license, schedule a hearing or change a record. Fees are paid through the Louisiana Interactive (Tyler) payment portal hand-off; staff decisions are made by staff.
• Its answers are not legal advice and are not rulings of the State Licensing Board for Contractors or the State Plumbing Board. The statute and the Board's decision control.

Deterministic where it matters

Expiration dates, renewal windows, fees, delinquent fees, penalty ceilings, notice periods, application clocks and renewal holds are computed by a rule engine that cites the provision it applies, never by the model. The model may explain those results; it cannot alter them.

Questions typed into Ask LA are sent to the model provider to generate an answer. This demonstration holds illustrative records only; do not enter real personal or financial information.
